– Gael Garcia Bernal
Located in a the by-lanes of the ever busy Baga, is a Tex-Mex Teroso
that goes by the name of the chilli ‘Habanero’.
Habanero’s walls are decorated with splashes of colour along with pictorials symbolic to its Mexican and Goan influence. Sadly, when we went for a review they were renovating but the sombreros, the stage, the balcony, beer bottle walls looked quite intriguing.
During our visit, Habanero had an exciting Margarita Festival ( https://www.instagram.com/p/BUBfNcEg28P ) where they were offering their patrons 13 different flavours of Margarita. They still have a few flavours on their menu
so do not miss out on them !
Kingfisher Beer Cheese Dip
The moment we read the name of the dip in the menu, it was love at first sight. The warm dip was placed in a bowl surrounded by crunchy nachos & had a sprinkle of spice. Every dip into the rich cheesy pool was delicious, you can actually taste the beer ! We were dying to order more .. but we didn’t want to pig out on the first thing we had.
Order this and you will get a mountain of golden homemade corn chips layered with beans, tomatoes, olives, jalapeno peppers, sour cream, melted cheese & Habanero’s signature guacamole. The quantity is quite ‘mucho’ and the dish is a perfect amalgamation
of colours, textures and flavours !
Mini Peri Peri Fish & Chips with Spiced Mayo
Another favourite of the afternoon. The batter surrounding the basa was not only perfectly crisp but also incredibly light ! Dusted with peri peri spices, the basa was just a joy to eat. We barely even touched the spiced mayo.
Fried Rajma Cake with Masala Ranch
The Pan fried fritters had a nice crisp coating encasing its soft Red kidney bean mash. To really enjoy the flavours of the fried finger food, have it with tangy the ranch sauce.
The prawn was coated in grated dry coconut with that left the throat a bit dry despite the coriander sauce dip. Great taste but needs a bit of gravy, semi dry perhaps ?
Our only complaint about fajitas are that they tend to get a bit dry. Since we got to put together our own fajita here that issue was completely eliminated ! We added oodles of guacamole, sour cream along with shredded Beef Tenderloin & the many elements they gave us. We could take out what we want, add extra of when we needed,
just the way we liked it !
Snicker Chimichanga with Strawberry Sauce
Our favourite chocolate bar melted to fill up a warm, crispy Chimichanga dipped in vanilla ice cream & drizzles with strawberry sauce… a gooey messy delight that must be had
with your fingers !
Fried Ice Cream
A crunchy warm coat encompassing a delightfully cold scoop of ice cream. The Ice cream is basically flash fried to keep it from melting. We quite liked Habaneros Fried Ice cream but we think a little bit of honey will make it quite awesome.
We also heard that these guys are coming up with an in-house brewery.
Looks like we need to head back to Goa soon !
( Please note the quantity in the images are mostly small tasting portions )
