The Bandra Halloween Dessert Crawl Powered by Dineamic was quite exciting with 10 venues to visit… and to be honest, quite tiring too.
We began the crawl with registering at Ellipsis Bakery located below Natures Basket in Bandra, which was quite confusing for most.
We began our sugar rush with Ellipsis Bakery‘s Fudgy brownie with white chocolate chunks.
Gooey fudge squares with a moist texture and a sudden burst of white chocolate that broke the monotony of plain cocoa, an absolute delight !
Though they look bite sized, the tiny squares were pretty filling making us wonder how we would manage to eat all the desserts to follow.
As always, we meddled around and asked some crawlers about their experience.
Drews Peerbhoy, Teacher – ‘This was an amazing start to the crawl! The fudge brownies were delicious and quite filling. Can’t wait to try out the rest.’
We were all pretty excited about our next stop, Mamagoto, since we had three delicious options to choose from Caramel sponge cake, Banoffee pie & Mamas homemade chocolate cake. The choice was obvious, Mamas homemade chocolate cake !
Much to our dismay, there was no Mamas homemade chocolate cake. So we decided to try out the other two beginning with the Banoffee pie.
Their version of the Banoffee pie left us disappointed as the pie lacked the necessary slight crisp & had an over powering taste of caramelized banana.
On the other hand, the Caramel sponge cake had a nice and fluffy sponge with a lovely thick caramel glaze. A very sweet but nice option.
who was a part of the crawl.
The Sassy Teaspoon is located right inside the Sassy Spoon that takes over a prime corner on the hill road stretch… And here we finally got to see a few Halloween decorations !
The Halloween dessert here was Carrot Cake filled with cream Cheese. Our tastebuds were already Od’ing from an overdose of sweetness, but this dessert proved to be quite a breath of fresh air ! Just the right amount of sweet, a beautiful & light cream cheese filling with hints of carrot and a very moist cake, lovely.
We met a gorgeous little Cleopatra Ananya there and we asked her about the cake,
‘ Its nice and soft. I like it ! ‘
Now the next stop was like a needle in a haystack! We bumped into a lot of people asking for directions, some even gave up and moved to another venue.
The food truck, Scoopalicious , was tucked inside a bylane behind the St. Andrew’s Church in Bandra. We were lucky enough to tag along with some crawlers that were Bandra locals or else we would have probably given it a miss too.
We had an option between two unusual flavours of ice-cream – Pumpkin & Black Sesame.
The Pumpkin was surprisingly quite tasty with a mild creamy pumpkin flavour lingering in each bite but the black sesame was a bit too chalky in texture for us.
Vrajesh Vyas, The Food Addict, ‘ The food truck was a bit inconvenient because of its location, also they didn’t really have any great options. If I have to choose a favourite amongst the two served, it would be the Pumpkin Ice Cream. ‘
Our fifth venue was all the way on St John Baptist Rd, definitely NOT a walk away.
At the Taj Mahal Tea house we got Blueberry Cream Scones & Karipatta Delight Tea. The scones looked beautiful sitting pretty garnished with icing sugar; but they didn’t impress us much as they were soggy and left a chalky biscuit texture in the mouth. The blueberry cream on its own was lovely.
The Karipatta Delight tea pairing was a bit odd too, we were expecting a dessert tea here to be honest. Though the tea completely washed away all the sweetness leaving behind a not so pleasant bitter taste. If we had to, we would pair the tea with a savory.
Nayantara Pandit, Chef, ‘ The scones tasted good, however they were a little too biscuity. The blueberry cream overpowered the taste of the scone. ‘
Joyer Monteiro, Seafarer, ‘ Karipatta Tea.. a strongly aromatic, fresh & earthy flavoured tea that tasted a bit weird for a first timer… nonetheless the curry leaves do the overall balancing of the acidity of the tea, a normal after taste… not everyone’s cup of tea. ‘
Our next set of 5 venues were quite a ride away…. maybe a good time to add… to be continued…
Part 2 of the Halloween Dessert crawl 2016 coming soon…
