“What can I say? I’ve never met a cupcake I didn’t want to get to know better”
– Jasinda Wilder, Big Girls Do It Better
Famous for their desserts, Boston cupcakery has now launched a menu full of interesting savories which we were invited to review at their Bandra outlet.
Taking up an entire corner on the KFC wali galli, the outlets golden glistening light
make it impossible to miss.
Despite the lovely weather, we chose to sit inside closer to the cupcakes & their goodies
for ‘Nayan Sukh’ until we could devor them one by one.
We were attended to by one of the partners, Sagar, who listed out
some of his favourites from the menu; and we are glad he did!
Baileys Irish Green Tea : We initially believed Sagar was pulling a fast one on us when he asked us to try the Baileys Irish Green Tea. Though we adore the liqueur, a green tea version of it didn’t really bring a smile to our face, at first. When you take a sip, assuming it will be sweet, you are caught by surprise! It tastes just like the average green tea which goes on to fill your senses with a beautiful bailey essence. Wow. We are certainly stocking up on these for starting our day on a happy note! ( Yes they sell packs too! )
Mint Mojito Green Tea : This green tea fills the air with the aroma of menthol, which leads you to believe it’s a nose burner. Surprisingly, it had just the right amount of mint which doesn’t give you that sucker punch you wouldn’t wanna be drinking. It has a very refreshing flavor and something we strong recommend if you have a cold.
Café Nutella : Though we are sure the name is enough to get you craving, we would like to add 2 cents of our experience to it. It’s quite thick in consistency ( we aren’t complaining ) , and filling too! It’s not too sweet but the flavor of Nutella evidently pops up in each slurp. This cold thick shake is A Must have.
Café Caramel : Pretty similar to the Café Nutella in consistency but tilts towards the sweeter side with the beautiful richness of caramel.
Café Medici : We were quite Impressed to see this on the menu. Originated in Seattle’s historical ‘Last Exit on Brooklyn Coffeehouse’, Café Medici is a Doppio ( basically a double shot expresso ) poured over hot chocolate syrup & orange zest topped with whipped cream. To taste, it’s like a melted orange flavoured chocolate bar with bitter notes of coffee. Try it!
Asian Noodle Salad : Japanese noodles- you may get either Saba ( thin wheat noodles) or Udon ( Thick wheat noodles ) in this salad tossed in a soy miso vinaigrette, with sautéed onion, Tofu, red kraut, pomegranate, sesame, capsicum, spring onion leaves, lettuce. This salad revolved around the salty, earthy flavours of the miso & beany notes of the soy. For those who haven’t tried a traditional Asian noddle salad could compare this to a hakka noddle prep; but it’s quite different if you pay attention. Overall the salad was a nice beginning to the meal, but the Tofu could have been a tad bit softer.
Spicy Peanut Thai Salad : Lettuce, Red Kraut, Carrots, sundried tomatoes, peanuts, sesame, bell peppers with a peanut sauce dressing & soft chicken marinated in a spicy sriracha marinade. This salad has a lovely amalgamation on sweet & earth flavor from the peanut, spicy sriracha, sour sundried tomatoes and crunchy veggies.
Red Velvet hummus with Rosti Waffe : This dish was our favourite of the evening. Warm & Crisp potato waffles (Rosti), soft & smooth beetroot hummus with a crunchy lettuce, soft feta & lemon drizzle salad… an amalgamation of textures that lead to an explosion of flavours. Must have.
Savory Waffle, Barbequed waffle chicken : Though the dish didn’t click with us as a whole, the barbeque tossed chicken was a delight! This in house BBQ sauce has a spicy peppery punch with sweets notes popping up in every bite. What didn’t click with us about the dish was the waffle taking away the delicious taste the barbeque chicken had.
Pesto Scramble : A creamy egg scramble doused with zippy pesto… a happy first for us! We loved this fusion. Team it up with a bed of crunchy toast and a salty-fresh splash of parsley butter and all you will be able to say is hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Another Must have.
Kheema Pav : The owners family Kheema recipe is packed with flavor and has quite a hit of spice too. Served with a herbed bun maska, this pungent mince will force you to go for a second round (with a glass of water at hand). A dash of lemon & it’s absolutely sublime !
Cupcake Ice Cream : A warm cupcake placed in a cup on a bed of cold ice cream, chocolate balls & a chocolate wafer roll.
Well Cake ( Caramel & Nutella ) : Imagine a dam made of cake, filled with chocolate / Caramel, well… that’s what a well cake is all about ! A scoop from the warm moist cake will get the Nutella / Caramel gushing out and spill on the plate begging to be licked right off… and we are positive you will happily oblige. A must have and a perfect ending to our meal.
What we took back from our dinner the most was the service. Though when we go for reviews, we almost always get top notch service; but the experience was different here. The partner, Sagar, was in uniform to begin with and made sure he attended to every guest that walked in and gave him his undivided attention. Very commendable.
We shall definitely be dropping by soon for some sinful delights… and to claim our winnings from our bet *wink wink*.
