An invite for #TheLankanTales dinner at @TheLeelaMumbai was nothing short of an honor. Not only did we get a chance to gorge on some authentic Sri Lankan dished but we also got a chance to meet a Deshbandhu award winner, Chef Dr Publis Silva.⠀⠀⠀
The world’s smallest cookery book
In 1956 Chef Dr Publis Silva started out as coal-dragger at the Mount Lavinia Hotel and a few years later became the Director of Culinary Affairs at the same hotel. He has authored 23 books and has entered the Guinness Book of Records for creating the longest and largest Kiribath as well as the smallest recipe book ( To see a picture : https://www.instagram.com/p/BnJkpopHiSq/ ) , entitled Royal Meals of the Last Kings of Sri Lanka. In 2004, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Open International University of Sri Lanka. He was also conferred with a Deshabandu Award for distinguished services to the nation.
The Lankan Tales
Mrs. Chamari Rodrigo (Sri Lankan Consul General) dropped by to introduce the culinary maestros behind the 10 day pop-up at The Leela Mumbai, namely Dr. Chef Publis Silva of The Mount Lavinia Hotel and award-winning culinary maestro Chef Sunanda Kumar of the Cinnamon Lodge Habarana, who have been specially brought down to curate this exquisite feast, which celebrates the rustic recipes of their homeland.
